Pastor Job Description
Purpose: To serve as the spiritual shepherd of Lilly Grove Baptist Church by preaching and teaching
the Word of God and directing the congregation in a vision for divine growth.
􀁸 Exemplify the heart of a good shepherd and servant of God as so found in
1Timothy 3: 1-7:
o This is a faithful saying: If a man desires the position of a bishop, he desires a good work.
A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, temperate, sober-minded, of
good behavior, hospitable, able to teach; not given to wine, not violent, not greedy for
money, but gentle, not quarrelsome, not covetous; one who rules his own house well,
having his children in submission with all reverence (for if a man does not know how to
rule his own house, how will he take care of the church of God?); not a novice, lest being
puffed up with pride he fall into the same condemnation as the devil. Moreover he must
have a good testimony among those who are outside, lest he fall into reproach and the
snare of the devil.
􀁸 Must be an ordained minister of the Gospel
􀁸 Be active in community outreach programs/ministries
􀁸 Develop and execute a clear vision for Lilly Grove Baptist Church including, but not limited to
training/developing church leaders
􀁸 Clarify with the congregation the goals and objective for Lilly Grove Baptist Church
􀁸 Give leadership and supervision for implementing that vision through various ministries
Church Ministries
􀁸 Effectively preach the Word of God using various styles such as sermon series, narratives, textual,
􀁸 Deliver inspiring sermons that reflect adequate study and prayer
􀁸 On a weekly basis, lead Bible study and prayer services
􀁸 Perform recognized pastoral duties such as baptisms, the Lord’s Supper, officiating weddings,
visiting the sick and shut-in, funerals
Additional Involvement
􀁸 Maintain efficient communication between leadership and the church body
􀁸 Work with present deacons, church officers and committees in performing assigned responsibilities
